Dow Jones Industrial & Railway Averages

W D Gann wrote many courses that are hard to study without the complete chart data to enable seeing his descriptions in context, the Dow Jones Railway and Industrial Averages lessons among them.

Tim Walker, the author of a number of excellent books analysing WD Gann’s trading and forecasting lessons, initiated the collation and verification of these DJRA and DJIA historical data sets to facilitate his further analysis of W D Gann’s lessons, this time on the Averages. 

Tim is currently finalising his latest book, titled “How to Trade Like W.D. Gann Book 3 – The Dow Lessons” on W D Gann’s DJRA and DJIA lessons, which is due for publication later in 2025.

This prompted the Tim, and to a lessor degree the Auld Tyma, to go on a search for and collate the Dow Jones Railway and Industrial Averages market data extending from 1886 to 2024. 

The vast bulk of the reported DJRA and DJIA data is been collated from numerous sources including the book “The Dow Jones Averages 1885-1995, ed. Phyllis S. Pierce, Irwin Professional Publishing, 1996”, market analysis platforms, (eg Optuma and HUBB), along with limited data cross checked against that reported in the New York Times (NYT), Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and the Chicago Daily Tribune (CDT) newspaper data accessed at the Proquest (www.proquest.com) Historical Newspaper Database. 

The data acquired from all the aforementioned sources often contained quite significant discrepancies, thus the various sources have been compared and, where deemed necessary, adjusted to match the data from the most reliable source, or a consensus of sources, for the period concerned.

All the Auld Tyma Chart Data is contained in a compressed ZIP file that will need to be extracted before use.
