Installing Optuma Layers and Scripts

Optuma (by Market Analyst) is a powerful program for analysing charts of stocks, indices, commodities and foreign exchange. While Optuma has numerous tools to facilitate that analysis, the inquiring trader will always want some other tool to meet his particular and/or peculiar analysis needs. 

Optuma provides the necessary additional functionality through its powerful Scripting language available to all Optuma users.

Optuma's Layers are a means of grouping tools applied to Optuma charts so that those tool groups within a Layer can be toggled visible or hidden as one as desires, but more importantly, can be exported from one Optuma Workbook and imported to another. This also allows complete Layers to be passed to other Optuma users so they can be applied to their charts.

Creating new Layers and Scripts and applying them to charts is a time consuming manual endeavour, so if an Optuma user has already developed Layers and/or Scripts that meet your needs, then save yourself time and import those Layers and/or Scripts  that will assist in your market analysis.

The process for installing Layers and/or Scripts  is not entirely intuitive,  so the Auld Tyma has prepared a note to assist those not familiar with the process.

Layers, as noted above, are used to group Tools for easy management on charts. 

Scripts, are applied to charts using the SHOWBAR, SHOWVIEW and SHOWPLOT tools in Optuma. 

Scripts can be "simple", ie fully self contained, or "complex", that is they reference other Scripts using the Optuma SCRIPT(SCRIPTNAME=???) function within their code. 

Layers containing "simple" Scripts can be freely imported and should immediately work correctly. 

At present the same cannot be said for "complex" Scripts. They will not work until the referenced Scripts have been add to  the Optuma Script Manager.
